One of the hot topics this season is sleep, or more-like the lack of it. A good night’s sleep is something we would all love but unfortunately, we don’t all manage it. This can be down to many reasons; stress and worry, eating too late, not feeling relaxed… the list goes on. But don’t worry, we’ve put together five top tips on how to sleep better at night naturally.
1. No phones before bed
I know it’s tempting but lying in bed playing on your phone or gadget is a big no-no before bedtime. Studies have shown that being exposed to the blue-and-white light given off by phones, laptops, and other electronic gadgets at night prevents our brains from releasing melatonin, a hormone that tells our bodies it’s night-time.
Put down the technology at least 30 minutes before you go to bed to give your brain a rest. Try reading or meditating instead and create a soothing atmosphere with a calming, essential oils reed diffuser.
2. Rise and shine
Now you’ve had a great night’s sleep, it’s time to wake up feeling refreshed. So why not try waking up earlier, giving you the time to leisurely get ready, eat your breakfast and maybe even exercise. By starting your day earlier, you’ll not only have more energy throughout the day, but by the time it comes to go to bed you’ll be ready to embrace the ZZZs for a better night’s sleep.
3. Lavender
If you’re struggling to sleep, try introducing lavender and chamomile oils to your night time routine. Whether that’s moisturising your skin with a lavender infused body butter, or by adding a spritz of lavender pillow spray to your bed linen, the super-soothing effect of lavender and chamomile will help you to drift off into a deeper sleep.
4. Time for a spa
If you’re anything like me, you’ll always feel 100% more relaxed after a day in a spa. So why not recreate that feeling with essential oils, luxurious creams and room fragrances. From dipping into a bubbly bath of calming eucalyptus oils to indulging in a lavender face mask, and filling your home with the mood-enhancing scent of bergamot and lemon, there’s always time for a little self-care.
5. Prepare for tomorrow
One of the woes keeping you awake could be worrying about what you need to do tomorrow. Why not get ahead and plan your days in advance? On the day before, prep all of your lunch, get together your work clothes and go to bed knowing that everything is organised. Ok, I know that is easier said than done, but a good diary will help you put everything in to a plan.
Ready to get the best night’s sleep? We hope this guide has given you tips on how to get the perfect night’s sleep and to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. I don’t know about you but I’m already feeling more relaxed, I’m off to bed…
